Who I am
I'm 54, live in Düsseldorf, and three years ago, after almost 25 years of marriage, I suddenly found myself on my own. What felt like the end back then turned out, looking back, to be the start of a chapter of life I wouldn't want to be without today. I'm dating again – and I'm open about it, even if some people my age still smile at the idea.
On Frauen-Ab-50.net I write about what I've been through myself: the first uncertain steps back into dating, the question of how you even meet someone online these days, and the experiences I've had with different men since. How do I communicate my expectations at this age? How do I deal with prejudice? What actually makes a relationship later in life?
How it all began
After the separation, a good friend talked me into creating a dating profile. I was sceptical, felt too old for “something like that” – and was proven wrong. My first serious encounter was with a man who showed me that confidence and experience count for more in dating than a flawless appearance. We travelled together, talked for hours, and I learned to stand up for myself again.
These experiences shaped me. And I want to pass them on, because back then I would have wished for someone to tell me honestly how dating later in life really works.
